On this day, May 22, in 1899, the crew from the Indian River Life-Saving Station responded to the Addie, a schooner transporting lumber to New Jersey. She had run aground and began taking on water about a mile south of the station. After just one trip in the surfboat, the surfmen saved all 7 crew onboard and almost all of the lumber.
Old fella "B95" has been seen around Delaware Bay! B95 at Fortescue, NJ. Our iconic Red Knot hero, B95, has already flown the distance from the Earth to the Moon and halfway back. Against all odds he has been seen around Delaware Bay four times in the last five days. He was staying away from cameras until yesterday when Yann Rochepault and Cristophe Buidin from the International Delaware Bay Shorebird Research team caught up with our celebrity at Fortescue, NJ.

The nest was found late last week, and when last observed, contained three eggs.

2003 The last segment of State Route One, Odessa to Smyrna, opened to traffic. The 51 mile highway cost almost $900 million, took 30 years to plan, and 15 years to build. The event had an enormous impact on where people lived and commuted.
